Non-Google user access to Shared Google folders and content

A Drive or file can be shared with a non google account for Viewing

Email invitation to a non-Google email account

When a Google Folder or file is shared with an email address that is not from Google the recipient will have limited options. Initial shares will be limited to viewing only.

The recipient will receive an email with a direct 'Open' link.

  1. Clicking 'Open' will take the guest to the shared file or folder for viewing.
  2. They will be asked to verify that they have access to the  email account being shared with. Select 'Send' to receive a verification code by email.

The verification will last for 7 days in the web browser used. Private/incognito browser viewing will require verification each time.

Visitors are required to verify they are the correct user each time for security purposes.

  1. Copy the verification code from the email
  2. Paste or type the verification code and select 'Next'

Creating and using a free Google email account is recommended for easier access and management

After verification the shared folders and files will be visible.

  1. There are two options for display (toggle by selecting the grid/list icon
  2. Grid
  3. List
Folder - Google Drive

Folders can be opened.

Files can be viewed or printed based on access permissions.

Additional permissions may be provided by the owner.

Because the account being shared with is not a Google account, navigation between folders and files will require the use of the Browser back and forward navigation buttons.
