Printing to the DOC ColorPress

Updated on

The ColorPress is a toner based printer, located in the DOC PreProduction room (room M114). CIA students can use as a self-service to send work to print on 8.5"x 11" or 12"x18" text weight or card weight papers stocked in the printer. Clear acetate sheets can also be purchased from on-duty DOC staff members and printed using in the multi-purpose tray.

Students may also bring in their own paper to print on this device but MUST first have it approved by the DOC Manager or Specialist. Failure to do so could result in damage to the equipment for which users are responsible.

Step 1

After opening and editing the image to be printed,  click on the "File" drop-down menu at top left and select "Print" (or hit commmand + P).

File>Print
Step 2 (Photoshop)

Select DOC ColorPress as the printer, select "Layout" orientation, "Photoshop Manages Colors" (let "Printer Profile" default to document colorspace) and then click  "Print Settings"

Step 3 (Photoshop)

Select "DOC ColorPress" as the Printer, choose the applicable Preset (we've chosen single-sided 8.5" x 11" text weight paper here) then confirm the correct page size (this should change automatically based on the preset) and click "Save".

It is imperative to ACTIVELY select the preset. So, even if it is already on that selection, it must be selected again in order to implement the correct the settings.

Choose only "US Letter" or "Tabloid Oversize" as your Paper Size unless otherwise instructed by a DOC staff member.

Do not change any other settings unless otherwise advised by a DOC employee. Things like orientation and 2-sided printing will be controlled through the selected preset.

Step 6

Log into your PaperCut Account using your CIA username and password. Confirm cost and number of pages then click "print" on the release page to send to the printer.

The cost for each 8.5" x 11" one-sided print should be $0.35 and $.070 for each 12" x 18". Double sided prints will still show as 2 pages but should discount the second page to be $0.52 for 8.5" x 11" and $1.05 for 12" x 18" each. Confirming these costs will help avoid incorrect print jobs.
