Qwickly Attendance FAQ

Updated on

  • Chrome is the suggested browser. We have seen several issues when using Canvas and Qwickly on Safari and other browsers.
  • Can I create all my sessions for the term at once? If you aren’t teaching a studio class that will require two attendance sessions to be entered each class day, then yes! On the Settings tab for your course, you can see a blue Add Sessions button at the bottom.
  • Clicking it will display the following menu:

  • Once you define the start date, end date, and the days of the week that the class takes place, next time you go to take attendance in Qwickly for that class you’ll be able to select the predefined sessions to take attendance for, rather than selecting either past or current time to create a new session.

IMPORTANT: For scheduled sessions, attendance must be entered through the Attendance tab in the left side bar, rather than in the Records tab. Attendance entered by entering the Records tab and selecting a scheduled session will not be counted towards totals without one additional step:

If attendance in entered from the Records tab rather than the Attendance tab, instructors must select the session within Records and click the Update Totals button. Without doing so your attendance entered via the Records tab is unable to reported off of without this additional step. Attendance entered via the Attendance tab does NOT require this additional step. Qwickly will provide instructors several warnings about this once they begin to enter attendance in the Records tab:

  • How do I enter attendance twice for studio classes in Qwickly?
    • You are creating sessions each time you enter attendance. This means that you can create multiple sessions for the same day. Qwickly will not allow you to roster two or more sessions on the same day, so you must enter them this way.
    • Go to "List," and select "Past Time" under "Session Information". Select the date and enter "morning" or "afternoon" (or "session 1" and "session 2") in the title (see image). Repeat to enter the other session.
  • Can I use QR Code or Pin check in? Yes!

NOTE: Students will need to install the Qwickly Attendance mobile app in order for them to check in. Unfortunately, simply displaying and having the students scan the QR will NOT prompt them to install the mobile app, it will simply take them to a random website. Rather, they’ll need to go to their phone platform’s app store and search “Qwickly Attendance” to find and install the app. Once installed, they’ll be able to open the app and select their school from a dropdown (“Cleveland Institute of Art”) and then sign in to their Canvas account.

We have enabled QR code and pin check in in Qwickly for this term. When you open Qwickly in your course, you’ll be able to go into Settings and specify whether you want to use QR Code or Pin check in. Then, a Check In option will be available in the left menu under the Attendance header. Clicking into this will give you the option to begin QR Code or Pin check in, which will display a QR code or Pin number for students to scan/enter on the mobile app. If you have already defined sessions via the Add Sessions menu described above, you can select one of these predefined sessions to log attendance into with Pin or QR Code mode, but you also can choose a past or current time if you opt to not predefine your sessions.

  • What are "unavailable" students in Qwickly? These are students who have dropped the course. You can choose to hide them in your course report. They do not appear in the Canvas gradebook, but they do appear as "inactive" under the "People" tab.
