Student-Furnished Accessories in Studios

Updated on

Studios are provided to enable students to work within their own environment on campus. For safety’s sake, the following items are not permitted in studio spaces or in areas adjacent to studio spaces unless they are provided by CIA:

  • Small appliances including coffee makers, hot plates, toaster ovens, crockpots, refrigerators, and other similar items
  • Microwaves (public use microwaves are available in the atrium for student use)
  • Upholstered furniture of any sort (easy chairs, sofas, mattresses, etc.)
  • Halogen lamps
  • Two-prong, non-grounded electrical cords
  • Certain materials that are stored in a secondary container must be labeled (see Studio Operations team member)
  • Personal equipment must be approved by Studio Operations
  • Bodily fluids are strictly prohibited from use as art materials due to health, safety, and community standard concerns
  • The use of dead or living animals is strictly prohibited to ensure ethical standards, safety, and respect for living beings
  • The use or possession of liquids in quantities exceeding 5 gallons is prohibited

The College will work with Division Chairs who wish to have a refrigerator set up in a common area for use by their majors.

If prohibited item(s) are confiscated, students have 30 days to take the form left in its place to the Facilities Management and Safety Office to obtain the item and return it to their home. After that time, the item will be either thrown away or donated to charity. Repeat offenders will be documented and handled though the College's Student Conduct Process. If you have questions, contact the Facilities Management and Safety Office at 216-421-7950.
