The following violations are subject to disciplinary action, as provided for in this Code:
- Violation of the Academic Dishonesty Policy which includes cheating and plagiarism.
- Cheating: Use and/or solicitation of use of unauthorized materials, information, notes, study aides or other devices in any academic exercise. This definition includes unauthorized communication of information during an academic exercise.
- Plagiarism: Presenting the work of another as one’s own (i.e., without proper acknowledgment of the sources). Plagiarism can occur through written work, as well as, orally, visually, or conceptually.
- Fabrication and Falsification: Altering, inventing, or counterfeiting information.
- Multiple Submissions: Submitting the same paper, oral presentation or piece of work for credit more than once without prior written authorization from the faculty member of note.
- Complicity/Unauthorized Assistance: Intentionally or knowingly allowing another to commit and act of academic dishonesty. Giving or receiving assistance in connection with an examination or any other academic endeavor that a faculty member has not authorized.
- Lying/Tampering/Theft: Giving false information in connection with the performance of any academic work or in connection with any preceding academic dishonesty violations mentioned above.
- Violation of the Alcohol or Drug Policy.
- Violation of any College, state or federal drug or alcohol laws or policies.
- Improper actions resulting from the distribution and/or sale of alcoholic beverages or drugs.
- Violation of the Smoking Policy.
- Violation of any College or state laws or policies.
- Improper actions resulting from the distribution and/or sale of tobacco/vape products.
- Violation of the College’s Acceptable Use Policy (IT).
- Violation of the Recreational Vehicles Policy.
- Failure to comply with a reasonable request of authorized College personnel or law enforcement officers acting in the performance of their duties and/or failure to identify oneself to these persons when requested to do so.
- Violation of the College's Title IX Policy.
- Property Misuse
- Unauthorized entry to, or use of, College facilities including use of a CIA ID and/or keys of another community member and tampering with a locking mechanism.
- Attempted or actual theft of Institutional or private property.
- Misuse of, damage to, or destruction of Institutional or private property.
- Vandalism of Institutional or private property.
- Conduct which threatens or endangers the health, safety, or emotional well-being of others to include but not limited to:
- Bullying: A pattern of behavior when an individual repeatedly uses power in an intentional manner, including verbal, physical, or written conduct directed at another individual.
- Cyberbullying: The use of electronic communication to harm or harass others in a deliberate, repeated, and hostile manner.
- Intimidation: Subjecting an individual to intentional action that significantly threatens and induces a sense of fear and/or inferiority.
- Coercion: The improper use of pressure to compel another individual to initiate or continue action.
- Threats: Physical, written, verbal, or electronic conduct which reasonably expresses an intention to cause an individual injury, harm, or damage.
- Physical restraint, assault, or any other act of physical violence, or use of physical force against an individual.
- Violation of the Anti-Hazing Policy.
- Fire Safety Violation: Intentionally/unintentionally causing a fire safety hazard, tampering with fire safety equipment, or causing a false fire alarm.
- Obstruction or disruption of teaching, research, administration, disciplinary procedures or other College activities, including CIA events or other authorized activities of the College.
- Disorderly conduct defined as conduct which is lewd, indecent, or breaches the peace; or aiding, abetting, or procuring another person to breach the peace.
- Violation of CIA’s Parking Policy
- Gambling defined as gaming, betting, or operation of lotteries for money or other possessions on College property or in any College-operated or managed facility, with the exception of College-sponsored lotteries.
- Illegal or unauthorized use, possession, or distribution of any firearms, weapons, fireworks, explosives or ammunition, or abuse of flammable substances, on College property.
- Violation of the Non-Discrimination and Anti-Bias, Harassment, and Intimidation Policy.
- Harassment is defined as (a) unwelcome conduct based on a legally protected class, including: race, color, religion, sex, national origin, gender identity/expression, sexual orientation, ethnicity, age, marital status, physical or mental disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law; and (b) that is so severe or pervasive that it interferes with an individual’s work or academic performance or creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive working environment.
- Biased conduct is defined as any verbal, written, visual, or physical conduct, whether intentional or unintentional, based on an individual's actual or perceived membership in a protected class or protected categories that:
- demeans or intimidates individuals; this includes derogatory language, and
- impairs or interferes with an individual’s right or ability to participate in and receive opportunities to experience their education or employment.
- Intimidation is defined as subjecting an individual to intentional action that significantly threatens and induces a sense of fear or inferiority.
- Furnishing false information to an College authority which includes but is not limited to: false reporting, forgery, alteration or misuse of institutional documents, records, or identification.
- Abuse of the Conduct System, including:
- Failure to respond to a summons of the Conduct Board or the Hearing Officer.
- Initiation of a conduct proceeding knowingly without cause.
- Attempt to influence the impartiality of a member of the Conduct Board prior to or during the course of conduct proceedings.
- Failure to complete or comply with a disciplinary sanction assigned by the Conduct Board/Hearing Officer.
- Verbal, physical, or mental harassment or intimidation of any member of the conduct body, witnesses, complainants, or respondents prior to, during, or after a conduct proceeding.
- Retaliation by any party toward others involved in the adjudication of a violation.
