Students who are found responsible and who do not agree with the outcome of a hearing have the opportunity to appeal to the Dean of Students on specific grounds within 48 hours of receiving their outcome letter. Appeals must be submitted via CIA email to [email protected] and must include the student’s name and ID number and must indicate on which ground(s) the student believes the decision should be appealed (options below):
- Through no fault of the student, information/documentation pertinent to the decision was missing at the time of the decision. Note: The student will be required to submit the additional information/documentation as part of the appeal along with an explanation of why the information/documentation was not provided in the original request.
- Through no fault of the student, the Student Conduct Process was not followed and had a direct impact on the decision at the time of the decision. Note: The student will be required to identify which part of the Student Conduct Process was not followed, documentation showing the process was not followed, and a description of how the decision may have been different if the process had been followed.
- Belief that the sanction(s) imposed were grossly disproportionate to the severity of the offense.
- The finding does not match the evidence. Note: The student will be required to identify how the finding does not match the evidence.
- Belief that there was bias on the part of a hearing board member that deprived the process of impartiality. Note: The student will be required to identify how bias played a role in their hearing.
Disagreement with the decision alone is not sufficient for an appeal. All appeal decisions are final and binding.
