MCC Policies
The Interactive Media Lab will adhere to all policies and procedures outlined by the Midtown Collaboration Center. This includes waste management, guest and event registration, guest wireless access, smoke and tobacco-free policies, mailroom and delivery procedures, etc. See MCC tenant handbook for more policies.
Shared Spaces
Access to MCC shared spaces is available to all CIA students, faculty, and staff, including the Cafe, Innovation Hall, meeting pods (bookable through the MCC Front Desk), and the RISE Conference Room (by request through the IML Operations Manager). Use of all shared spaces is subject to MCC policies, availability and any applicable reservation requirements.
Community members and industry partners may also access MCC shared spaces, including Cafe, Innovation Hall and meetings pods, subject to MCC policies and availability. Meeting pods may be reserved through the MCC Front Desk and RISE Conference Room may be reserved through the MCC Events Coordinator.
Required Attire + PPE
Appropriate attire and personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required in some spaces. Review space specific policies for more information.
Hygiene + Grooming Standards
To maintain a respectful and distraction-free environment for everyone, please follow these guidelines when using spaces and equipment.
No Grooming in spaces.
Personal grooming (like brushing hair or clipping nails) must be done at home or in restrooms, not in the studio spaces. Exception to this rule would be use of the Green Room located in the XR Studio.
Must be clean and scent-free when using shared or wearable equipment (e.g., motion capture suits and VR headsets).
Out of consideration for others, we ask to avoid strong fragrances (E.g. perfumes, colognes, heavily scented lotions or sprays) when using shared equipment and spaces. Especially motion capture suits. Deodorant is an exception to this policy.
Food + Drink Guidelines
Please follow individual facility guidelines for food and drink policies.
Age Restrictions
Individuals who are 18 years of age or older may use the Interactive Media Lab without other adults present, except for required supervision by IML staff as outlined in facility-specific policies.
CIA undergraduate students enrolled in a registered academic program may use the Interactive Media Lab unaccompanied, regardless of age.
All users, regardless of age, must comply with training requirements, authorization standards, and space-specific supervision rules.
Minors who are not enrolled in a CIA undergraduate program may only access the IML through supervised activities.
Housekeeping + Materials Storage
The Interactive Media Lab is to be kept clean at all times. Debris is to be swept up and disposed of properly, and any spills are to be cleaned off the floor immediately to prevent a slipping hazard. Walkways must be kept free of debris and obstructions; and a clear path must be maintained to exits. All cables obstructing walking paths must be taped down to prevent tripping hazards. Small materials can be stored in the provided storage lockers. All large materials must be stored off site when not in use. If working on a long-term project involving large pieces, contact IML staff to collaborate on storage solutions.
All flammable substances, such as paint, solvents, or adhesives, cannot be stored at the IML, including in the lockers.
Spent razor blades must not be placed in the trash. All waste blades should be placed in the red disposable container located at a Rapid Prototyping Lab workstation.
Hand-held power tools must be plugged into a wall outlet. Daisy-chaining of power strips or extension cords presents a potential fire and tripping hazard and is prohibited.
If any equipment has frayed or damaged electrical cords, notify IML staff immediately.
