The IML Equipment Checkout provides CIA students with access to media production equipment in support of academic, creative, and approved independent work. Equipment Checkout is operated by IML staff and student employees and is subject to availability, training requirements, and established procedures.
All IML equipment is the property of the Cleveland Institute of Art and must be treated with care.
Students are responsible for:
Proper use and handling of equipment
Keeping equipment secure while checked out
Returning equipment in the same condition in which it was issued.
Equipment may not be modified, repaired, or altered by users.
Eligibility
Equipment is available at no cost to currently enrolled CIA students. Students must present a valid CIA ID at the time of checking in. Certain equipment may require prior training, certification or authorization before checkout. Equipment may only be checked out and returned through the IML Equipment Checkout desk. Unauthorized users or guests are not permitted to operate IML equipment.
Reservation + Renewal Limits
Equipment reservations may be made online for up to two business days, subject to availability. Walk-up checkouts are permitted but subject to availability. Items may be renewed for up to three additional business days if not reserved by another user. After the renewal limit, items must be returned and re-checked out.
Pick Up + Return Procedures
Reserved equipment must be picked up within three hours of the reservation start time, or the reservation may be voided. Students are responsible for:
Verifying equipment condition and completeness at pickup
Returning equipment on or before the due date and time
A proxy may pick up or return equipment only with prior notice and approval from IML staff.
Late Fees + Penalties
Late returns are subject to a $2.00 per business day per item fee. A $10 fine may be assessed for uncharged batteries or unattended equipment.
Students with three late returns in a semester may receive a one-week suspension of checkout privileges.
Unpaid fines may result in account holds and delays in graduation clearance.
Special Cases
Extended loan periods may be approved for class projects, institutional events, designated academic periods such as Spring Show, BFA Week, and summer programs.
