Steps to view and capture MacOS system information for Student Laptop Assessment

Select ‘About This Mac’ from the Apple Menu in the upper left corner of your screen:

While holding down the option key on your keyboard, select ‘System Information’ from the Apple Menu in the upper left corner of your screen. ‘System Information’ will only be visible in the Apple Menu while holding down the option key:

You should now have both the ‘About This Mac’ and ‘System Information’ windows open on your screen. Please use the following keyboard shortcut to open your Mac’s built-in screen-shot utility:

Command + Shift + 4

This will produce a “crosshair” that you can use to create a screenshot from your Mac’s display. Please use that utility to capture an image of both the ‘About This Mac’ and ‘System Information’ windows, like the example below:

You’ll use this screenshot to complete the last question in the quiz by performing a file upload.

Next, we’ll discuss where to find the specific pieces of information required for the rest of the quiz.

RAM

Highlighted above in the Memory field is the value you’ll need to answer the RAM question on the quiz.

Storage

While in the window on the right in the screenshot above, click on the More Info button, this will take you here:

The value within the box above is the total needed to answer the Storage question in the quiz.

CPU Cores

Back to this menu from before, you can see the CPU cores of your laptop highlighted below next to the Total Number of Cores field:

GPU Cores

In the above menu click the Graphics/Displays tab on the left:

The total number of GPU cores is the value highlighted above.

 

 

After you upload the screenshot you took earlier for the final question in the quiz, submit and you’re done!
